City consultants told the Angola Common Council Monday the city will pursue a federally funded project to replace roughly 1,275 warning and regulatory signs across Angola, with a scheduled bid date in February 2026.
Chad Salisbury of Fleece and Vandenberg, the consultant firm hired by the city for bid plan preparation and inspection, said the project will receive a 90/10 federal-to-local funding split for preliminary engineering, construction and inspection. He said the last cost estimate, based on current unit prices, was about $264,000 for construction; the city applied for a larger federal allocation (about $360,000) to provide cushion against bid fluctuations.
Salisbury said the city will not replace sign posts because they already meet standards; crews will use a mobile field-mapping app to update the city’s GIS live as signs are installed. Environmental paperwork and INDOT approvals remain pending; consultants said a categorical exclusion and other documents are due to INDOT by Oct. 20, 2025.
Ending: Staff told the council they will continue to coordinate with INDOT and proceed toward the February 2026 bid date, with the city responsible for roughly 10% of costs under the current funding assumptions.
