The Angola Common Council opened six bids Monday for the William Street Trail project, a roughly 8-foot-wide concrete trail that will connect the east side of Williams Street near the YMCA to the fountains entrance.
Bids ranged from a low of $250,248.90 to about $361,963.84. The bidders and stated amounts in the bid opening were: Malott Contracting — $250,248.90; Prosperity (bid listed ~ $262,054); Brooks Construction — $267,262; API Construction — $274,700; TE (Fort Branch) — ~$299,985; Fleming Excavating — ~$361,963.84. Staff told the council those figures were slightly over the project estimate.
Council members asked questions about the trail width and site conditions near a pond and soft ground at the fountains entrance. Staff said the project will use bollards and delineators in some locations to protect the trail access but not continuous crash barriers.
Council asked staff to review the bid line items that drove costs higher and to report back at the next meeting. The council took the bids under advisement and directed staff to bring further information to the council at a future meeting.
