City manager: zipline lining due Oct. 31; horse-barn assessment set for week of Oct. 13

The Pocomoke City manager told the mayor and council that the zipline lining is scheduled for completion by Oct. 31 and that full repaving will follow later in November.

“The zip lining is scheduled to be completed. The actual lining of it, October 31 is the deadline because it has to be done before the cold,” the city manager said. Staff said the project was originally scheduled Aug. 28 through Nov. 30, and that the lining must be finished before sustained freezing weather to avoid additional protective measures such as heated coverings.

The manager also reported progress on street and sidewalk planning and said the engineering firm GMB is reviewing a detailed spreadsheet and maps the city provided. “Chris, from GMB, contacted me today and George Hyde, the senior project manager from GMB, will be reaching out to me in the next couple days,” the city manager said.

On the horse farm maintenance, staff said they had identified a contractor who specializes in cleaning horse barns; the contractor is available to assess the facility the week of Oct. 13. The manager described the scope as substantial and said the assessment will advise next steps for maintenance and ongoing management.

Council members asked staff to provide regular updates to residents, especially for projects such as the zipline phase, because many residents do not use the city website. The mayor asked staff to consider additional outreach for residents without internet access and to follow up with more detailed schedules after conversations with the engineer and contractors.

Staff will report back with more detailed schedules and recommended outreach methods before the council’s next meeting.
