State lawmaker presents citation to outgoing Marathon County highway commissioner Jim Griesbach

State Representative Brent Jacobson visited the Marathon County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 21 to present a legislative citation honoring James (Jim) Griesbach for more than 35 years in public service in the transportation sector.
Jacobson read a citation that commended Griesbach for advocacy on highway worker safety, adoption of winter highway maintenance technology, and leadership on relocating Marathon County Highway Department facilities. In presenting the citation, Jacobson said he reserves such recognitions for people who have “truly made an impact on the community.”
Griesbach, the county’s highway commissioner until his retirement earlier this year, thanked county officials and the representatives he worked with in Madison and Washington, saying he “always felt it was very important to have this relationship with the representatives” and that he appreciated the dialogue with state officials. He also thanked county administrators, committee members and staff and said, “it was a great career and I appreciate every moment.”
The board chair offered the board’s thanks for Griesbach’s 35 years of service and praised his visionary leadership on county infrastructure projects.
The presentation was ceremonial; no formal board action was required for the citation. The recognition and Griesbach’s remarks occupied the meeting’s early agenda and preceded routine business.
