Walk Massachusetts, a pedestrian-accessibility nonprofit, has offered a funded walk audit and training for the Town of Danvers, commission members said Oct. 23. The program will train local volunteers and staff to identify curb cuts, accessible routes and other barriers.
Commission members said Walk Massachusetts has offered several November dates for an initial meeting and proposed walk-audit sessions. The dates shared at the meeting were Monday, Nov. 10 (10 a.m., noon, 3 p.m., 4 p.m.), Tuesday, Nov. 18 (anytime after 9:30 a.m.), and Thursday, Nov. 20 (9 a.m., noon, 1 p.m.). One commissioner volunteered to coordinate with Noah Levitt of Walk Massachusetts; commissioners said Levitt indicated availability for the proposed dates.
A commission member who read the schedule said, "For Monday, we've got 10AM, 12PM, 3PM, and 4PM. For Tuesday, 11/18, we have any time after 09:30AM. And then Thursday, 11/20, we have 9AM, noon, and 1PM." The commission chose to target Nov. 18 as a likely date and asked volunteers to confirm availability; staff will consolidate emails and pick a final time with Walk Massachusetts.
Commissioners said the Walk Massachusetts audit is already funded and will be useful for the town’s ADA self-evaluation and open-space planning. Members encouraged at least one liaison to attend the initial scheduling meeting and as many members as possible to join the full walk audit.
Ending Commission staff will consolidate scheduling responses and notify Walk Massachusetts of the commission’s preferred availability; commissioners said they will report back on a confirmed date and encourage broader participation for the walk audit.
