Danvers names Matt Mitchell liaison to Accessibility Commission, staff to coordinate cross-department work

The Town of Danvers Accessibility Commission introduced Matt Mitchell, the town’s director of Senior and Social Services, as the commission’s new liaison Oct. 23, a role commissioners said will link the panel’s accessibility work with other town departments.
“I was asked to be part of this group, going forward,” Mitchell said at the meeting. Marks and other commissioners described a natural fit: Mitchell’s department sits in Land Use and Community Services and touches planning, senior programs and other departments the commission frequently works with.
Commission members said Mitchell will attend senior-management leadership meetings and check in with staff as projects arise. The commission also discussed integrating the commission’s work into other planning efforts — for example, the town’s open-space plan and a planned ADA self-evaluation study — so commission perspectives inform those processes earlier.
Commissioners described the liaison role as operational and collaborative rather than a separate job. Mitchell said he meets with his supervisor, Aaron, at least every other week and expects to coordinate with town staff and department leads as accessibility issues arise.
Ending Commissioners said the liaison appointment will be gradual, with Mitchell attending department meetings and coordinating points of contact. Staff and commissioners will track opportunities to integrate accessibility review into planning and capital projects.
