Friendswood City Council voted unanimously to adopt a proclamation recognizing Oct. 6, 2025 as Joy of Friendship Day at Wedgwood Elementary School.
City staff introduced the proclamation and the city attorney confirmed the wording. The city secretary read the city’s vision statement into the record and then read the proposed proclamation text. The motion to accept the proclamation was made by Council Member Murphy and seconded by Council Member Hernandez. The mayor put the question and the motion passed 7‑0. “Motion passes 7 out of 0,” the record shows.
Why it matters: Council members said the recognition highlights the city’s longstanding program that invites second graders to participate in council meetings and supports Clear Creek Independent School District character education. Council noted the program’s history dating to 2018 and that it introduces students to local government.
Ending: Following the vote council members and the students posed for photos and attended a brief reception outside the meeting room.
