Kingsport board recognizes TCAT partnership, National Merit honorees, Sevier Middle School award and unveils recruitment video

The Kingsport City Schools Board of Education on Oct. 14 recognized multiple student- and school-level achievements and previewed a new recruitment video intended to attract teachers to the district.
TCAT Elizabethton representatives attended to recognize the district and Dobbins Bennett High School’s career and technical education (CTE) partnership. A TCAT Elizabethton representative said the district and TCAT began dual enrollment in 2023 and now have longstanding program ties. The presenter said Dobbins Bennett offers embedded TCAT programs including administrative office technology, automotive technology, collision repair, cosmetology (new this year), criminal justice and patient care medical assisting. The speaker told the board there are about 491 students enrolled in CTE programs on the Dobbins Bennett campus, roughly 515 Kingsport students dual-enrolled with TCAT Elizabethton system-wide, and more than 220 students in allied-health dual-enrollment programs.
Miss Holly Fain (accepting on behalf of Dobbins Bennett) and district leaders accepted a TCAT banner recognizing the district’s participation. "It's a big deal because ... it opens up the opportunity for students to have transcripted credit that no one can take away," a TCAT representative said.
The board also recognized six Dobbins Bennett students named National Merit commendations and four seniors named National Merit semifinalists. Miss Jackson (presenter) read the names of commended students and noted that commended designees represent roughly the top 3–5% of PSAT test takers; semifinalists represent roughly the top 1% and will compete for finalist standing and scholarships in 2026.
Separately, John Sevier Middle School staff were recognized for receiving a 2025 Resilient School Distinction Award from East Tennessee State University. The board presented a certificate to school leadership.
Superintendent Dr. Hampton (presenter) and communications staff screened a new recruitment video produced to support the district’s strategic goal to recruit and retain educators. Dr. Hampton credited Miss Kinch (coordinator), Nick Bowen (production) and Sullivan Perry (support) for the video and said the district plans to share the material with local colleges of education and at career events.
Board members offered public thanks to students, staff and community partners for the partnerships and achievements.
