The Kingsport City Schools Board of Education voted Oct. 14 to adopt the 2026–27 school calendar and the designated holiday schedule for 12‑month employees. Superintendent (presenter) said the calendar mirrors the version discussed at the September work session and follows the district’s model of starting in early August so the first semester finishes before winter break.
Key dates in the adopted calendar include a student start date of Aug. 3, a fall break the week of Oct. 16 (aligned with the football bye week), an abbreviated day on Dec. 18 to end the first semester, two full weeks of winter break with students returning Jan. 5 and staff returning Jan. 4 for in‑service, the traditional spring break the week of March 20, and an abbreviated final day on May 19. The superintendent noted that with Memorial Day falling late in 2027 the calendar allows the district to finish a full week before the holiday.
The designated holiday schedule for 12‑month employees will include 12 paid holidays, 11 designated and one floating holiday at the employee’s discretion, the superintendent said. The board voted to accept the calendar and directed staff to post it on the district website and begin family and staff communications.
