The statue is proposed for placement on property that houses the Williamson County Archives adjacent to Veterans Park at the 5‑Points intersection. Emily (staff) described the piece as bronze and said it would “blend with the materials that are seen within the district” and recommended that the commission forward a favorable recommendation to the Public Arts Commission and BOMA.
Applicant remarks: Mr. Benson, representing the donor, described the statue as a "lifelike statue, bronze, a $150,000 gift, weighs approximately 800 pounds," and said the work had been set in place temporarily for evaluation of sightlines. Benson said the statue faces St. Paul’s Episcopal Church from the right side of the archives building and compared the piece to another nearby statue of Coach Gentry.
Action taken: A commissioner moved to recommend approval to the Public Arts Commission and the Board of Mayor and Aldermen; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Commissioners discussed preferred placement options — generally agreeing the proposed locations were close to one another and appropriate for the proposed gift — and there were no citizen comments on the item.
