Vigo County CIB hears updates on museum graphics, roundabout landscaping and Indiana Theatre break-in

The Vigo County Capital Improvement Board received several facilities and security updates on Oct. 22, including a progress report on museum graphics, landscaping and a recent break-in at the Indiana Theatre.
John Marple provided an update on museum graphics replacement work and samples under review. He said a sample material for replacing a tall “jump” graphic had arrived and that installers must be located; one recommended installer is based in Cleveland and the earliest installation is likely early next year. Cost estimates for installation remain incomplete. “We received a sample of the product that we're looking at, to replace a couple of graphics… but we don't have a cost,” Marple said. Staff confirmed the manufacturer provided a 10-year warranty for the material.
County Commissioner remarks covered a recently completed roundabout project near the City County Campus: irrigation trenching is complete, sod is scheduled within two weeks, and a granite monument with lighting is to be installed in the northeast corner. The commissioner said irrigation and conduit work is in place and invited Art Spaces and the CIB to participate in a future ribbon cutting.
Board members flagged concerns about vehicle access and pedestrian safety on the new median and said they may consider bollards, landscape barriers or other deterrents to prevent cars from driving over curbs. The commissioner said concrete and irrigation work had been overseen to permit future additions such as art or lighting in medians.
Separately, board members discussed a recent break-in at the Indiana Theatre: volunteer Rob discovered juvenile trespassers by viewing security-camera footage and contacted 911; police apprehended the juveniles within about an hour, and authorities reported no known thefts. The board said several door locks and other hardware were damaged and that further work is needed to secure the building.
The board also briefly discussed ongoing conversations about partial support for a local rowing team; members said the county has matching funds available through the community foundation and indicated staff would follow up with possible grant or fund assistance. No formal actions were taken on these items.
