Council approves consent calendar; awards TreePeople urban-forestry plan and moves forward on south-side park work

Council member Peralta spoke in favor of awarding the contract to TreePeople, citing the group's role in the city's grant application and asking that the scope require an online-accessible community survey and an equitable distribution of in-person workshops across neighborhoods (south, northwest and east side). Peralta also said TreePeople would donate an additional 250 fruit trees, bringing the total expected plantings under the grant to about 750 trees.
City management confirmed staff will require an accessible online survey as part of the contract scope and said equity in workshop locations would be required during plan development. The council approved the TreePeople contract by roll call (Alonzo, Romero, Mayor Pro Tem Tamayo, Peralta and Mayor Melendez voting aye).
Council member Romero spoke briefly about item 13, praising attention to the south side and noting that relatively small improvements (for example restroom touch-ups) can improve resident pride and perceptions of safety and stewardship. Item 13 was then approved by roll call with the same affirmative votes.
The mayor closed the consent calendar and the meeting proceeded to any required travel reports. No public-comment cards were recorded for consent items.
