Michigan House adopts memorial resolution honoring former Rep. Lamar Lemons Jr.

The Michigan House of Representatives adopted House Resolution 187, offering a memorial tribute to former state representative Lamar Lemons Jr.

The resolution, read on the floor and presented on behalf of the full membership, recounted Lemons’ military service, business career and legislative tenure. It noted he was born June 23, 1936, served four years in the U.S. Air Force, worked at Ford Motor Company and Eppert Oil Company, and later founded Lemons Transportation, which he ran with his son.

Representative Myers Phillips spoke in support of the resolution, saying, "He lived the very definition of service," and urged colleagues to adopt the measure as a testament to Lemons’ record in public life. The clerk asked members in favor to rise; the presiding officer announced the resolution adopted.

The text read into the record lists committee assignments held by Lemons during his legislative career, including Commerce; Energy and Technology; Family and Children Services; Insurance; Military and Veterans Affairs; Homeland Security; Senior Health Security and Retirement; and the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules. The resolution also notes that Lemons served alongside his son in the House from 2005 to 2006 and directs copies of the resolution be transmitted to his family.

The action was procedural and memorial in nature; no further legislative action on policy followed from the floor adoption.
