MRC says facade-grant funds must be spent this year; five to six applications in process

The commission’s discussion noted that the grant dollars will not automatically roll over into the next year’s budget and that the commission can choose to permit rollover if it directs staff to do so. Commissioners asked staff to add an agenda item for the next meeting to consider whether unused facade-grant funds should carry over, so the commission can decide ahead of year-end.
Commissioners reported the facade-grant review committee has received about five or six applications. The committee is finalizing documentation and anticipated bringing several applications back next month for formal approval on the commission’s recommendation. Staff said the communications director had the public posting for approved grants queued for publication.
Commissioners also said they were not aware of any current applications seeking demolition funds under the facade program; most applications were for downtown addresses in the 47305 ZIP code or nearby properties within city limits.
The commission directed staff to process the applications and to prepare a rollover recommendation for the next regular meeting.
