Wilson County adopts employee badging, mass-notification system; department heads tasked with rollout

Wilson County Commissioners Court approved a policy to issue employee ID badges and integrate badge data into a mass-notification system, with department heads responsible for implementation and lost-badge investigations.
Jaylyn Botiford, the county human-resources specialist, presented an updated policy and said revisions incorporated feedback from commissioners. Botiford and other staff described a workflow in which employees upload a photo and department or designated staff verify the photo against an ID. "This is gonna be something that's gonna be fairly simple to make it run," a staff member said, noting most employees have phones or email.
Commissioner King said badges would also help with access control in the emergency operations center and courthouses. County staff explained some employees will receive proximity/access cards (HID) for secured doors while others will receive a visual ID badge; the system will also feed the county's mass-notification capability to send alerts to employees during emergencies.
Commissioners discussed concerns about employees who work outdoors (road and bridge crews) losing badges and agreed department heads should handle investigations into lost badges and decisions about whether an employee was negligent or simply misplaced an ID. The court concluded every employee should have a badge and tasked commissioners and department heads to complete the rollout.
Commissioner King moved to adopt the policy; Commissioner Perdola seconded. The court voted to approve the employee badging and mass-notification system.
