Commissioners remove members from county boards for nonattendance and nonresidency

The Freestone County Commissioners Court voted on Oct. 9 to remove several individuals from county boards for nonattendance or nonresidency.
The court considered a staff recommendation to remove Anthony Roberts, Wendy James, R. Tugdale and Annie Collins from the CBS board for failing to attend at least three meetings without an excused absence, a removal that staff said was consistent with the board’s bylaws. Commissioners noted there remain sufficient members on the board and said no replacements would be appointed at the meeting.
Separately, the court voted to remove Blair Gage from the CPS board after staff informed commissioners that Gage did not reside in Freestone County. Commissioners moved and seconded the removals; both motions carried.
A commissioner asked whether the absent members had been notified; staff replied they were not sure, but members of the board said it had been several months since attendance. Commissioners recorded that the bylaws permit removal after three unexcused absences.
