Niagara-Wheatfield opens 30-day public comment on draft districtwide safety plan; policy committee holds first readings

The Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District announced a 30-day public comment period on a draft districtwide safety plan, and the district's policy committee reported first readings of two related policies, the board said at its most recent meeting. The board did not take formal action because members said a quorum was not present.

A board member told the meeting that the draft districtwide safety plan is available at the district office at 5700 West St. in Sanborn and that the public comment period will close on Nov. 19. The board member said the district will accept public comments through staff member Susan Dylan Maroney.

The policy committee reported that it conducted first readings of policy 5681, described at the meeting as the districtwide school safety plan, and policy 5676, described as privacy and security requirements for student data and for teacher and principal data. The board member said those policies will continue as first readings and will be considered again at a future meeting; no formal vote was held because the board lacked a quorum.

District officials did not provide additional details or a vote schedule at the meeting. The board member said the draft safety plan is available for inspection at the district office and invited public comment to be submitted to Susan Dylan Maroney before the Nov. 19 deadline.

Because there was no quorum, the board did not adopt or amend any policies at the meeting. The district did not announce further dates for policy votes during the meeting.
