Temecula advisory committee begins two-year general plan update; traffic and neighborhood road widenings draw early concern

The City of Temecula’s General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) convened Oct. 9 for a kickoff meeting to begin a roughly two‑year update of the city’s general plan, focusing initial discussion on roles, schedule and public outreach and drawing immediate concerns about traffic and proposed roadway widenings in residential neighborhoods.

Matt Peters, director of community development, opened the meeting and introduced the consultant team, advising committee members to “pour yourself into this process” and noting “a lot of what we’re gonna do…is gonna be very transparent.” Amanda Tropeano of De Novo Planning Group told the panel the consultant team will prepare the plan and the environmental review, saying, “Our project schedule is about 2 years.”

Why this matters: the general plan sets Temecula’s long‑range land use, mobility, conservation and community‑design policies. The update will produce a draft plan for public review and an environmental impact report (EIR) under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Early debate about circulation and neighborhood roadway changes indicates transportation and school‑area safety will be central issues as the committee refines land‑use alternatives.
