Communications director reports NextGen 911 grant and dispatch staffing levels

Joel, the county communicator, told the Public Safety Committee that Sawyer County received funding from the 2025 NextGen 9-1-1 grant and used it to purchase additional monitors dedicated to monitoring school camera systems.
He said Director Vercinski and another full-time dispatcher attended a conference in Green Bay and that the county is participating in a mutual aid box alarm system (MABAS) with monthly training and testing. The communications center reported 1,584 calls for service for September as of Sept. 24 (compared with 1,085 at the same point last year) and a year-to-date total of 12,731 calls. Joel said staffing is down to two full-time dispatchers; applications have been received and interviews were scheduled for Oct. 9.
