Clerk of courts proposes raising juror per diem to $50 a day

Marjorie (Marge), the Sawyer County clerk of courts, told the Public Safety Committee she will ask the committee next month to raise the juror per diem from $25 a day to $50 a day (or $25 for a half day).
Marge said the current $25 daily rate was adopted April 1, 1993, and she argued the increase is fair because jurors lose wages, may need childcare and must take time off work to serve. She also said jurors receive mileage reimbursement at 51 cents per mile and that the office plans to shift from sending jurors out for lunch to providing lunch after they clear the security checkpoint.
Committee members voiced support in the meeting for the proposal; the clerk said the request will be formally brought to this committee next month.
