The Lawrenceburg Zoning Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance on Oct. 22, 2025, allowing larger-than-permitted signs and an entry arch at 507 West Eads Parkway, the site of the 4 Speed on 50 auto park.
The board granted variance application number 20250083 after the applicant, Liz Salisbury of Signarama, described two sign projects: a billboard-style backdrop tucked near the rear tree line and an archway spanning the cul-de-sac that serves as a gateway to on-site attractions. “We’re trying to transform this once was an unused corner of town into a vibrant local attraction,” Salisbury said, describing the signs as part of a broader effort to tie together the diner, vintage gas station and classic car museum on the property.
The variance request cited relief from section 154.40(e)(2)(a) of the zoning code for sign height and square footage limits. The board reviewed the proposal and the written findings of fact read into the record by the zoning administrator, which said the variance would not be injurious to public health, safety or welfare and represented the minimum deviation needed to allow the business to be successful. The hearing record lists the parcel as 507 West Eads Parkway, parcel number 15-07-15-301-005.003-013.
Discussion focused on the arch’s vertical clearance for emergency and delivery vehicles. The applicant said the arch’s center height was currently just under 15 feet and agreed to raise the arch edges so that side clearances would provide at least a 14-foot clearance, which the board identified as sufficient given the site conditions and that the roadway is not a state highway. The board also noted the billboard-style sign would be set back near the tree line and would not compete visually with signage along U.S. 50.
After discussion the board moved to accept the findings of fact and approve the variance. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The zoning administrator said he would provide the applicant with the approved variance paperwork the following day.
The board did not place additional conditions in the record beyond the clearance adjustments discussed during the hearing.
