Developer to pay $34,692 to city instead of building perimeter trail near roundabout project

The Board of Public Works approved a development agreement under which I Beach Holding Partners LLC will pay the City of Westfield $34,691.80 in lieu of building required perimeter trails along the developer's frontage. The city will install the trails as part of a roundabout and associated construction planned at 180 First at Grama Park Boulevard next summer.

John Nail, director of public works, said the approach avoids duplicative work: the citys roundabout contractor will construct the trail during the roundabout project rather than the developer installing it and then having it removed and reinstalled. “They are going to compensate us in the amount of $34,691.80, which is the fair construction cost price that we felt comfortable with in installing those perimeter trails on their behalf,” Nail said.

The board approved the payment-in-lieu agreement by voice vote.
