The Westfield Board of Public Works voted to update the Police Department's towing and records rotation, approving Miller's Towing, Bannon and Sons and Paddock's for placement on the city's rotation list and authorizing the police chief to execute the accompanying agreements.
Eric Grimes, assistant chief, told the board the department issued the request for proposals after legal changes that went into effect July 1 and that the department received proposals and vetted respondents. “We've recommended 3 of our submissions to go on to our updated rotation for the police department. That'd be Miller's Towing, Bannon and Sons, and Paddock's,” Grimes said.
Grimes said the change adds a third company to a rotation that previously had only two vendors and that department demand has increased. The board voted twice: first to approve placing the three firms on the rotation list, and second to authorize the police chief to execute the attached agreements.
The motions passed on voice votes. Staff said information about which company to contact after a tow is communicated at the scene and appears on accident reports or tickets.
