Council approves library grant to Black Lemonade after library lays out corrective plan for compliance issues

The Metropolitan Council approved a $174,796 appropriation from the Nashville Public Library to Black Lemonade for after-school and summer programming through the library’s Nashville AfterZone Alliance.
Councilmember Suarez asked whether library staff were present because the analysis referenced noncompliance issues with the contractor. Dr. Joshua Love, operations manager for the Nashville Public Library, acknowledged administrative concerns and said the issues were ‘‘more so leaning upon delegation, internal controls, board, and being able to ... with the division of duties.’’ He said the library has worked with Black Lemonade on an administrative improvement plan and that the organization must meet specified benchmarks by the end of the month. "We put together an administrative improvement plan for them, and they have certain amounts those reach at the end of this month and moving forward to reach those goals to divide those duties," Dr. Love said.
After the library representative described the corrective steps, the council approved the appropriation by voice vote.
