Jefferson Union names Megan Williams student of the year; board and students praise her art and curiosity

At the Oct. 25 trustees meeting, Mark Brashears presented Megan Williams of the Jefferson adult transition program as Jefferson Union High School District’s October student of the year.
Brashears said Williams joined ATP in 2023 after graduating from Westmore High School and noted that while at Westmore she maintained a 3.9 GPA and enjoyed art, ceramics and fashion-design classes. "From the day I met Megan, I was instantly charmed," Brashears said, describing her as "one of the most inquisitive students I've ever met." He highlighted Williams’s participation in Creativity Explored’s Imaginate Youth program and praised her artistic work.
Williams told the board her favorite thing to paint is maps that render real-life places. "My favorite thing to paint is...the map that I created," she said, adding that turning real-life places into art allows her to revisit them in imagination.
Superintendent Toni Presta and several trustees and student advisors offered congratulations and encouraged Williams to continue pursuing her curiosity and creativity. The board paused briefly for a photograph following the recognition.
