Pine Bluffs district accepts nearly $19,137 Firehouse Subs grant to replace AEDs

The Laramie County School District #2 Board of Trustees voted Oct. 13 to accept a grant award of $19,137.50 from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to purchase replacement automated external defibrillators for district schools.

District staff told trustees the district has about 10 AED units approaching the end of their usable service life and that the Firehouse Subs foundation typically funds about half of requests; in this instance the district was told it would receive nearly the full requested amount. The district will await formal written confirmation from the foundation before publicly announcing details of the award, staff said.

During the meeting an unnamed district staff presenter said, “we will get 10 free AMPs from Firehouse Subs for whole district,” and described a July application request for $19,137.50. The motion to accept the award was made by board member Michael and seconded by Kendra; the board approved the motion by voice vote.

Board members asked whether the foundation would require post-award reporting. The presenter said staff had not been told of specific follow-up requirements but that previous grant work with the district involved sharing budgetary or administrative details with the foundation.

The presenter told the board that the foundation reviews awards through its board and that the district should expect confirmation by about Nov. 1, after which the vendor and the foundation will coordinate delivery and next steps.

The board assigned no specific follow-up deadline during the meeting other than awaiting the written award; staff indicated they would file the confirmation and proceed with procurement once the foundation’s board finalizes the award.
