A district staff member updated the board on September activity at TCD/DAOs, reporting four priorities under review: a facilities assessment, a space-utilization study, a safety audit and a review of existing leases. The staff member said new administrators at TCD/DAOs are auditing resources and offerings and that the program is soliciting bids for a strategic-planning consultant.
The staff member described the space-utilization review as an effort to identify underused areas in a large building and determine whether reconfiguration could benefit students in TCD programs or bring in new offerings. The safety audit will address shop and lab equipment risk in programs such as fire science, construction and automotive, including auto body work. The staff member said the program will ensure equipment is in operating order to keep students safe.
Staff also reported outreach changes aimed at Spanish-speaking students and families, including a "night calling system" in which staff make phone calls to families who prefer Spanish to communicate attendance concerns and other updates.
The staff member said TCD/DAOs has received consultant bids for its strategic-planning process and will continue to move forward with the planned review. The board did not make formal decisions at this meeting; staff will return with further recommendations.
