Mister Ford and Miss Tripp presented background on the Start College Now and Early College Credit Program (ECCP), explaining both allow high‑school students to earn college credits while in high school. Staff said ECCP is primarily used for courses through four‑year institutions and Start College Now is generally through two‑year technical colleges (Western Technical College and CVTC cited). The district presented historical data back to fall 2022 showing overall similar participation levels but a shift toward more students using two‑year/online pathways.
Board members asked about prerequisite checks and whether in‑district classes must be completed before signing off on applications; staff said counselors review prerequisites and do not sign applications unless students meet requirements. A board member thanked staff for encouraging student participation and said the in‑house prerequisite requirement seems to be smoothing out.
Following the presentation, a motion to approve the Start College Now and ECCP applications as presented was made by Mister Wells, seconded by Miss Lopez. The committee approved the motion by voice vote and moved the item to the full board for placement on the consent agenda.
