At East Stroudsburg North
Lawrence Cruz and Dylan Perry, students from East Stroudsburg North, summarized academic and extracurricular activity in October. Highlights included:
- Juniors took the PSAT; scores were expected to be released Thursday following the meeting. - The choir and chorale participated in master classes (including a Moravian conducting master class) and performed at local events, including a Hall of Fame concert and the Pennsylvania School Boards Leadership Conference. - Senior Gustavo Mora set a new school cross-country record on Oct. 4 with a 16:14 5K, beating the prior mark by about 45 seconds; cross-country districts were upcoming. - Fall athletics successes included a girls soccer 3–2 victory on Sept. 24 and the boys cross‑country team finishing the regular season with several wins (North boys reported 10 wins, girls 7 wins in-season). - Homecoming activities, a revived tailgate and student social events (Dorney Fright Night, hallway contest) were reported as morale boosters.
At East Stroudsburg South
A South student speaker reported:
- Recognition of October teachers of the month (Mr. Phillips and Mr. Mooney from special education), who reached 25 years of service. - Future Educator kickoff and the 12+ transition trips to Monroe County CareerLink where students completed job assessments and employment paperwork to access paid work experiences. - Rehearsals for the fall play (performance scheduled Nov. 21–22) and new extracurricular offerings including a Fellowship of Christian Athletes club (first meeting 33 attendees, second meeting 52 attendees). - Homecoming week activities, senior night recognitions, and PSAT schedules for juniors. - An ESU (East Stroudsburg University) VIP trip for registered seniors on Oct. 30 with campus visits and an expedited admissions decision.
MCTI student report
Kaylin Olathemona, SkillsUSA ambassador and MCTI student representative, reported that MCTI’s car, truck, bike and tractor show on Oct. 4 had 108 registrants; she also listed upcoming industry visits and career exploration events and announced DECA officer elections and FFA competition results.
Why it matters
Student presentations gave board members and the public a summary of academic, career and extracurricular programming taking place across district high schools and the career-technical institute. The reports signaled active student engagement in arts, athletics and career pathways.
