Commissioner requests work session on turf at Urbane Road ball fields after rain cancellations

“For the last year or 2, I've had a lot a lot a lot of calls referencing our ball fields at the Urbane Road about if it drink rain rains, a fourth of an inch or a half an inch or a quarter of an inch or just gets muddy, these tournaments that are coming in here that they can't play. We're having to cancel, and, I'd like to bring mister Lockhart in to give us a report on exactly how many tournaments we lost because of rain and possibly how many, our recreational teams that we don't get to play because of little rain,” Oldford said. He asked that the matter be placed on next week’s work-session agenda.
Oldford said turf installation or other field improvements could help keep tournaments and visiting teams in town, which he said would benefit hotels and restaurants. He did not provide cost estimates or a funding source for turf installation and did not request immediate action beyond adding the item to the work-session agenda.
Ending: The commissioner said he would place the topic on the work-session agenda for next week to obtain a staff report; no formal vote or funding decision was taken at the meeting.
