Prince William County School Board approves superintendent's 2025—26 goals

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — The Prince William County School Board unanimously approved the superintendent's annual goals for the 2025—26 school year at a special meeting held Oct. 18, 2025. The board voted 8-0 to adopt the goals after discussing them in closed session pursuant to Virginia Code.

The board moved to approve the goals at agenda item 6.01. Vice Chair Tracy Blake moved the motion and Miss Williams seconded. Board members called the roll and the motion passed 8-0, with the clerk announcing "The vote is 8 yes, unanimous motion passed." The board had previously voted to enter closed session under Virginia Code §§ 2.2-3711 and 2.2-3712 to conduct the superintendent's annual goal-setting and related personnel discussions; the closed-session certification later adopted by the board noted those topics were the only matters discussed in closed session.

The board did not disclose goal language or performance metrics in open session; the motion approving the goals stated they were "as presented in closed session." The board also adopted the closed-session certification required by Virginia Code § 2.2-3712, which the clerk read and the board approved by roll call vote (8-0). The certification resolved that, to the best of each member's knowledge, only matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements were discussed and only the matters identified in the motion convening the closed meeting were considered.

No additional public comment was taken during the special meeting. The minutes and any formal evaluation criteria tied to the superintendent's goals were not read into the public record at the meeting and therefore were not available in open session.
