County Mayor reported that the parking lot project at the Menace Road Fire Station was completed and that the county received the work for the original bid amount, which the mayor said was about $100,000 lower than the other bidder.
The mayor said the county originally did not accept an alternate that would have concreted an island behind the station but that contractors completed the alternate as well at no additional cost. “If you feel like it, you see Charlotte, you ought to tell her thanks,” the County Mayor said, referring to the low bidder and subcontractor coordination that produced additional savings.
The mayor also updated commissioners on a separate, city-led annexation process tied to the site. He said the annexation submittal includes a plat showing a road from Powerline Road to the highway and that the matter is expected to go before the planning commission this month. Bids on the building portion of the project were opened last month, the mayor said; he did not provide a contract start date.
The mayor closed by inviting commissioners to view the completed parking work and asked if anyone had additional items for his report. No further action on the project or the annexation was reported at the meeting.
Ending: The commission did not take formal action on the annexation at this meeting; the mayor said the city planning process is the next step and that a construction start date for the station building was not specified.
