Council forms committee to study future of Northampton pool; officials seek community input

Council members at the Oct. 15 meeting said a committee has been formed to study the future of the borough pool and will gather community input before recommending changes.
Councilwoman Holloman, who said she spent summers at the pool, told colleagues the group will look at costs, usage and options for the facility. “We have a committee formed, and we are gonna be looking for ways to gather, input from the community,” she said during her report. She described it as a difficult decision given the pool’s limited operating months and the cost of maintaining a facility used primarily in warm weather.
Council members said the committee will seek residents’ views at meetings and through other outreach; no budgetary decision or specific timetable for closure or renovation was made at the Oct. 15 meeting. Other councilors emphasized they want to weigh costs against community value before recommending a path forward.
The committee’s work will return to council in future reports; residents who want to comment were encouraged to speak with their council representatives or attend upcoming meetings.
