County planning office says comprehensive plan near completion; zoning committee tensions noted

Planning and zoning staff told the Henry County Fiscal Court that most of the comprehensive plan is complete and that only two future land-use map areas remain outstanding as the county prepares to finalize the document.
Jason, a planning and solid-waste staff member, reported 27 electrical permits and 35 building permits for the last month. He also announced upcoming meetings: the Board of Adjustments on Monday, Oct. 27, and the next planning and zoning meeting on Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. in the same building.
Court members asked about the status of the county comprehensive plan. A county member said the plan has been largely finished except for the future land-use maps for the Pendleton area and a final map from Emmett that staff say is complete but not yet delivered. The county indicated it hopes to finish the plan before the end of the year and vote on it in January.
Roger, a fiscal court member who chairs the economic development committee, said his committee has reviewed recent planning and zoning meetings and recommended that the county evaluate the direction of the planning and zoning board after some recent contentious meetings. He told the court a recent presentation about a proposed $38 million subdivision brought difficult questions and that he wants the zoning committee to consider how it handles outreach and hearings.
