The Lewisburg Area School District board approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to bring Unified Sports programming — the Special Olympics model for inclusive athletics — to district middle school(s).
District representatives said the program will include bocce ball and other Unified Sports activities and would begin at the middle school in Linnentown in the spring. The MOU will be executed pending the final paperwork and details, and the board approved moving the agreement forward.
Motion and vote: Mrs. Krauss moved the motion and Dr. Grant seconded. The board recorded roll-call votes (Dr. Jablonski — yes; Mrs. Krauss — yes; Miss Lyons — yes; Dr. Mattis — yes; Mr. Fetzer — yes; Dr. Graham — yes; Dr. Grant — yes; Mr. Heath — yes). The motion carried.
Implementation: District staff will finalize the MOU and work with Unified Sports organizers and school staff to schedule spring participation at the middle school.
