Chaska council approves DEED application to support Mirada Controls expansion; city cites 35 new jobs

Julie (city staff) told the council the Chaska satellite of Mirada Controls manufactures small, high‑performance motors and subsystems for the aerospace and defense sectors and is seeking to expand rapid‑prototyping capabilities, bring production fully in‑house and add 35 jobs. She said the company planned capital investment of nearly $5,000,000 and requested city sponsorship of a MIF application; MIF is structured as a forgivable loan in many cases and is administered by DEED.
Heather Nygaard, a Mirada Controls representative at the meeting, said the company is pursuing local hires and relocations as part of the expansion and thanked the city for supporting the application.
The council opened and closed a public hearing on the MIF application; no members of the public spoke in opposition. Council Member Chevlin moved approval of the MIF resolution; Council Member Benesch seconded. The council approved the resolution by voice vote.
City staff said, if DEED awards MIF funds, the city would receive the funds and forward them to Mirada Controls under the terms of the MIF grant agreement. The council’s resolution authorizes the application and the public‑hearing requirement DEED mandates for local sponsorship.
No final DEED decision was announced at the meeting; the council’s action was limited to approving the city’s application and authorizing staff to file on behalf of Mirada Controls.
