The draft on the shared document reads in part that the council’s mission would be “to help protect and preserve valuable water resources in the West Colorado River watershed by providing a forum for discussion, collaboration, and coordination among as many water interests as possible throughout the watershed; and by advising the Utah Watersheds Council on important local watershed issues, ensuring local interests are well represented in state water planning and policy making.” Several members said the draft may be too wordy and suggested separating a short mission line from more specific goals and objectives.
Staff said they will circulate the live document and asked members to add ideas before the next meeting; the council plans to include discussion and approval of a mission statement and goals as a formal agenda item at the next session. Members noted that one clear objective is to track and respond to Colorado River issues because all council tributaries feed that river.
No formal vote occurred; members set a next meeting date of Jan. 15 and expected to bring a word‑smithing-ready draft to that session.
