At the Oct. 21 meeting the city manager updated the Rawlins City Council on staffing, audits and upcoming community events. He said the city has offered the finance director position to Laura Malone of Cheyenne and that she is expected to start Monday, Nov. 3.
City staff and the manager said they are working with auditors to provide outstanding materials so the fiscal-year audit can be completed before the end of the year. The manager reminded the council that downtown streets (Third to Sixth) will be closed Oct. 31 between 3 and 5 p.m. for Halloween activities; downtown closures will be followed by free skate night at the rec center and police/community trick-or-treating at several parks.
The manager also noted the golf course will be closed for the winter and invited volunteers to help with covering greens, and encouraged council engagement with department heads as he continues site visits. He announced an "Aging in Place Summit" on Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Depot, 400 West Front Street; staff said the event is part of work funded through an EPA Brownfields grant and led by Ayers Associates to study senior housing and redevelopment options.
The manager said he has met 1:1 with department heads and planned site tours including the wastewater facility and a day with the fire department to finish onboarding tasks.
