Bridgeport schedules EOC training, Halloween parade traffic plan and Oct. 25 drug take-back; 5K posts record turnout

Bridgeport officials announced several upcoming public-safety and community events: an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) basic operations course on Nov. 12, a Halloween parade traffic advisory for Oct. 18, and a drug take-back event on Oct. 25. Council members also recapped a recent 5K race that recorded a borough-high 197 registrants.
Chief Frehout (speaking as a borough public-safety official) said the EOC basic operations course will take place Nov. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m.; attendees who participated previously in EOC activities will complete additional individual learning with Deputy EMC Al Pandelo. The chief asked residents who are involved with EOC participation to consider attending.
For the Halloween parade on Oct. 18, officials advised residents to expect a temporary shutdown of Mill Street between about 4:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. The borough asked that all vehicles be removed from the Mill Street corridor between Ford Street and Fourth Street by noon on Oct. 18 to clear the parade route; Ford Street may be closed during the parade for about 45 minutes while organizers move floats. Officials said they will provide additional notifications to residents.
The borough will host a drug take-back on Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; the event was described in promotional material as “Nightmare on Pill Street” to coincide with the borough’s fall activities. Chief Frehout said the take-back will be posted on the borough website.
Council members also thanked volunteers and sponsors for a recent 5K event that had a record 197 registrants; beneficiaries were listed as the Upper Marion community (as recorded in the meeting) and the Bridgeport Fire Department. Council recognized the fastest man and woman, identified as Drew Elansky and Caitlin Lutz, and said the borough will present checks to the beneficiaries at a future meeting.
Officials closed remarks with a lighthearted anecdote about a magician who left a rabbit behind at a recent event; volunteers and staff assisted with the animal, which the presenter said was named Spot.
