Valley View board recognizes student and staff achievements, including Allstate theater selection and Milken award

The board recognized students and staff Oct. 20 for achievements including a Romeoville High School student selected for the Illinois High School Theater Festival Allstate production, several cross-country qualifiers to state, and a Milken Educator Award for an assistant principal.
The Valley View CUSD 365U Board of Education on Oct. 20 recognized student performers, athletes and staff for recent accomplishments.
Jessica Scott, musical producer for the Ville Theater at Romeoville High School, and musical director Rachel Milligan presented a recognition for Jace Heavens, a Romeoville High School junior selected for the Illinois High School Theater Festival Allstate production of Newsies after a statewide audition process. Scott said Heavens was selected from more than 300 auditionees and will perform in the ensemble and understudy a principal role; Scott said Heavens is the first Romeoville High School student cast in the Allstate production.
The board also recognized cross-country runners from district middle schools. Eric Sather, a teacher and coach at Martinez Middle School, recognized Gianni Jurado for qualifying for the state cross-country meet. Coaches from Jane Addams Middle School presented multiple student honorees, including Jack Rossi, Jace Norton and Aubrey Olvera, noting individual achievements and district-championship performances.
The board noted a district-level recognition for Doctor Lennox, assistant principal at VHS, who received the Milken Educator Award — a statewide honor presented to a single educator from Illinois. The superintendent said Sonia Ruiz, principal of Jane Addams Middle School, was again publicly recognized at the state level and would represent Illinois at the NASP conference in Washington, D.C.
Board members applauded students, staff and community volunteers for their contributions to district programs and extracurricular success.
