Board hears information on proposed AP English 10 seminar and 2026 high-school summer school plans

At the Oct. 20 meeting administrators presented information about a proposed English 10 Advanced Placement Seminar course and planning for the 2026 high-school summer-school program.
Dr. Polson reported the proposed AP English 10 seminar is intended to expand equitable access to advanced coursework prior to 11th grade and to develop competencies such as critical thinking, collaboration and communication. The item was presented as information; administrators said the district plans to return the proposal for formal consideration at a subsequent board meeting, and the district expects English 10 honors to be replaced by the seminar in the 2027–28 school year.
Separately, staff presented information about high-school summer school planning for summer 2026. The program described is a three-week session that will include general-education high-school programming and driver's education; additional details will be provided when the board is asked to approve the summer-school plan.
Both items were informational at the Oct. 20 meeting and will return to the board for formal approval.
