Camarillo Public Library marks Hispanic Heritage Month with performances, kids programs and community ofrenda

The Camarillo Public Library presented a series of programs to mark National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15–Oct. 15), library staff told the council. Assistant Library Director Lisa Given said the library’s kickoff included a traditional folklorico performance attended by about 80 patrons and that weekly children’s crafts — including papel picado and sugar-skull projects — drew more than 100 children per week.
Given also described a Día de los Muertos community ofrenda on display in the library lobby through Nov. 1 and invited residents to bring photographs of loved ones to include on the altar. Staff emphasized that library programming supports the city’s strategic plan goals for inclusive community engagement and access.
Councilmembers thanked library staff for the programming and noted the library’s role as a community hub for cultural events.
