Supervisors highlight upcoming canvass, early voting and parks staffing

Supervisors used the meeting to flag administrative and community items: County Auditor Michelle Scaff reminded the board that the election canvass will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m.; she said staff had completed ballot orders and would begin mailing requested ballots and opening in-person voting the following day. Scaff said a mass mailing had been sent to registered voters with precinct information and encouraged the public to visit the office during the busy voting period.
In committee reports, supervisors said the conservation board had a busy summer, with positive concession-stand revenues at Browns Lake and the new stand at Little Sioux Park. The conservation board told supervisors that suspending seasonal employees this year left too many tasks undone and that full complement of seasonal workers will likely be requested in next year’s budget to handle groundskeeping and campground services.
Supervisors also reminded the public that the county will be closed on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, and discussed scheduling for canvass signatures and attendance.
Ending: The board closed with reminders about community events (a Trick-or-Treat at Little Sioux Park and a National Sleep Out event on Nov. 7 supporting Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month) and adjourned.
