Macedonia council adopts resolution to seek state and federal road grants for North Bedford and SR‑8/Highland

The Macedonia City Council on Oct. 23 adopted Resolution 75 authorizing the mayor to apply to the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study (AMATS) for federal Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) and resurfacing funds to resurface North Bedford Road and seek additional dollars for the State Route 8/Highland intersection project.

The resolution lets the city submit grant applications for resurfacing North Bedford Road between State Route 82 and Ledge Road and for construction funding toward the State Route 8/Highland intersection improvements. "This resolution allows us to apply for grant dollars to resurface North Bedford Road, between State Route 82 and Ledge Road, and also to apply to AMATS for additional grant dollars, for the State Route 8 Highland intersection improvements," Director Gilotti said.

Council moved to adopt the resolution and, after a voice vote, the clerk recorded the motion as carried. The resolution was presented and adopted in a single action on first, second and third reading by title.

The administration and council said the applications are due Nov. 6; staff indicated they will proceed to submit the grant applications on the city's behalf. The council did not record a roll-call tally in the meeting transcript beyond the adoption vote being announced as carrying.

The measure directs the administration to pursue grant funding but does not itself appropriate construction funds; any award would be subject to separate acceptance and appropriation steps.
