Residents press council about speeding, deer strikes and child-safety concerns on Oak Lane; staff to deploy speed trailer

Residents in the Oak Lane neighborhood asked the council Oct. 16 to address vehicle speeds and recent collisions with deer and to reduce risk to children playing at cul'de'sacs that open onto the lane.
Resident Dee Rice said newly repaved sections of Oak Lane have become a "raceway," and recounted multiple incidents in which deer were struck near homes. Rice said cul'de'sac streets emptying onto Oak Lane put children at risk because many of the small streets sit on hills where cyclists and children accelerate into the main lane.
Neighbor Megan Kroll told the council she nearly lost control of her daughter this month when a car traveling too fast approached the family at a bus stop; Kroll said the geometry of Oak Lane, including curves and limited sightlines, exacerbates the danger.
Council and staff responses indicated the city has a mobile radar speed-feedback trailer that can be moved to problem locations and that police have earlier enforcement visits in the area. Staff said they would arrange placement of the trailer and follow up on resident-provided locations.
No formal action was taken beyond staff follow-up to deploy traffic monitoring and coordinate with police.
