The International Falls City Council unanimously approved Change Order No. 1 on Monday to extend the completion date for the city’s water treatment plant rehabilitation by five months.
City engineer Jason Fisher told the council the project is being executed as a Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) project and that critical filters and equipment have longer lead times than originally anticipated. Fisher said the extension will shift the schedule but will not increase the guaranteed maximum price for the work.
Councilors asked whether the change order carried additional fees. Fisher said the extension does not add cost to the project; it is a schedule adjustment to ensure the ordered equipment arrives and can be installed without disruption. The council approved the motion to accept the change order without recorded dissent.
The city has described the water treatment plant work as a multi‑year rehabilitation. Fisher said the extension is intended to ensure the city receives the required equipment and completes the rehabilitation with the correct components.
