Chamber seeks fee waivers for annual arts fair and offers exercise stations for Devane Park; council asks for public review

Chamber Executive Jennifer Bush told the council the Arts & Crafts Country Fair draws thousands of visitors each year. Staff confirmed the estimated town service fees for police and facilities were included in the adopted FY 2025-26 budget. The council voted to waive approximately $8,660 in town fees related to event services; the motion to waive fees passed with recorded votes.
Devane Park exercise equipment: private proposal, council requests public review
Bush also described a donor-funded plan to install six 6x6-foot concrete pads with exercise equipment such as a chin-up station, bench dip, and other simple stations targeted at multi-generational fitness use. Chamber representatives said they have a sponsor willing to pay for equipment and hoped to secure donors for concrete work if needed.
Council members and residents asked for conceptual drawings and raised concerns about the park's aesthetics and impact on existing uses, including car shows and other events at the circle. Several council members recommended the chamber present a site plan and asked staff to add the item to a public workshop so neighbors can review the exact placement and visual impacts. The council did not approve installation at the meeting but invited the chamber to return in November with conceptual plans and to discuss placement at the upcoming Lake June Park workshop and the Nov. 13 joint utilities/LPA/town workshop.
Why it matters: The Arts & Crafts Country Fair is a recurring tourism event with measurable local economic impact; fee waivers affect town operating budgets but were included in the approved budget. The Devane Park proposal is privately funded but touches on public-space aesthetics and competing uses and will require public engagement and a site plan prior to approval.
