The Fairhope City Council voted to award Weaver Directional Boring Incorporated the contract to install a 24‑inch water transmission main on Fairhope Avenue for a contract price not to exceed $3,373,186.80.
Staff told council there were six bidders and that the project was competitively bid. The new 24‑inch main will connect tanks and upsize transmission capacity in coordination with other nearby projects, including a 16‑inch line on U.S. 181 and Gaither Drive. Staff said upsizing lines improves the city’s ability to push water where it is needed and is part of a broader set of water-infrastructure upgrades.
Public-works staff described traffic coordination plans: the city will keep traffic flowing with one lane open and expects to use night or weekend work and detours when necessary to expedite work. Council members asked about prior experience with Weaver; staff reported standard reference checks were performed for firms the city had not previously used.
Council approved the award as budgeted.
