The Blair County Board of Commissioners proclaimed October 2025 as Red Ribbon Week and encouraged citizens to participate in drug-prevention education activities year-round.
The proclamation, read and moved during the Oct. 23 meeting, cited the National Red Ribbon Campaign and the importance of unified prevention and education efforts to reduce substance abuse among youth. The board voted "aye" to approve the proclamation and invited members of the Hollidaysburg Senior High Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) club to speak and receive the document.
Aliyah Walk, speaking on behalf of SADD at Hollidaysburg Senior High School, summarized the club's mission and listed events SADD sponsors, including a wellness fair, "expressions against depression," Coffee with a Cop, and activities planned for Red Ribbon Week. Walk said the club lobbied at the Pennsylvania Youth Summit in Harrisburg for increased prevention-education funding and planned local Red Ribbon Week outreach activities such as motivational chalk messages and seatbelt-candy incentives after school.
The commissioners invited the students to remain for the meeting and take a photograph with the signed proclamation.
