The St. Mary Parish School Board approved a committee recommendation to advertise a Section 16 parcel (307420404200) for lease as hunting land and authorized staff to solicit bids.
The board’s Section 16 land and building committee met earlier and discussed two parcels associated with Bateman Island, Township 16 South Range 12 East (approximately 240 acres). Committee members reported they took no action on parcel 307420406500 but recommended the board put parcel 307420404200 out for lease. "The board or the committee did recommend that we go out for the opportunity to lease the parcel ending in 42 Dot 00, as, up for hunting lease as hunting land," a committee member said during the meeting.
Mr. Paradis made the motion to proceed with the committee recommendation; Mr. Mancuso seconded. Mr. Mancuso asked whether attorney input could be added to the lease agreement and asked about timing given the hunting season; staff said the process should be ready in about four weeks. A district staff member identified as Lindsey said bids would be accepted until Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. The committee and board noted a possible lease term of 10 years.
The board approved the motion by voice vote.
Next steps discussed include preparing the lease or request for bids through district land staff (Mr. Regard was cited as the staff contact) and including attorney review of lease language where appropriate.
